Make Modern magazine
Issue 54 of MAKE MODERN magazine has just been published and my quilt pattern ‘Tracks in the Meadow’ is inside.

‘Tracks in the Meadow’ quilt pattern
‘Tracks in the Meadow’ was inspired by an actual field in the Yorkshire Dales (UK). I was on a walk with others, crossing the grass from one corner of the field to the other. There were four paths clearly visible which seemed to converge in pairs as they went into the distance. I took a photo and carried on walking.
Much later, I referred to the photo to begin sketching a design. I wanted to give an idea of perspective and in the end this was done by making each of the tracks a different width (the narrowest at the top).

In both pairs of tracks, the two paths converge, suggesting that the walkers will meet…
This quilt has ‘scrappy’ elements: each of the tracks is made up of scores of coloured strips. Precise measurements are given along with the exact colour selection (if you choose to make your quilt the same way).
The strips are pieced, not appliquéd and you will need to do careful measuring and squaring-up as the making goes on.
The quilt was photographed in Ramsgate, including in this interesting location on the East Cliff sea front:

And I’m in good company with the other designers in the issue, just take a look:
