As you may know, I am a fabric designer. I trained in Textiles and Surface Pattern by going to Art College in my late thirties (after previously completing a Modern Languages degress and working for several years in educational publishing). From the very start of Amanda Jane Textiles, back in September 2014, I began to design my own fabrics. There are currently 113 designs in my online Spoonflower studio, arranged in 24 collections. You can see all the collections in the ‘Fabrics’ section of the website here
The best-selling design is a set of quilt labels, shown below:
This are designed to fit onto a quarter of a yard (18 x 21″) so you get eight useful labels in a ‘fat quarter’ and thirty-two if you buy a yard.
It’s a really good idea to add a label to your quilt. Many beautiful old quilts have nothing on them to tell us who made them and for whom the quilts wered made. What a pity! Here is one of my quilt labels in action:

This is the quilt label added to the ‘Summer Bouquets’ quilt, which ran as a year-long project here on the blog. (Put ‘Summer Bouquets’ in the Search box to see all the posts.)
Recently, I have added two more sets of labels to the collection. Here is one of the new sets of labels, entitled ‘Quilt Labels – Sewing Tools’:

Here is the second, ‘Quilt Labels – Creatures’:’
These labels are smaller – you will get sixteen labels on a quarter of a yard, here’s a closer look:
In each case, you need to write in the details with a pemanent pen (such as a black laundry marker) which usually needs to be fixed with a hot iron, so the ink will not run when you later wash the quilt. (Always test your chosen pen on a piece of scrap fabric first!)
You can find a full set of instructions for adding a qullt label to the back of your quilt in the blog-post here
Next Monday on the blog, you will find instructions for making a festive bag for putting presents in!
