Easter 2024

Chocolate eggs in a dish, photo by Amanda Jane Ogden

Happy Easter! I am writing this on Easter Monday and hope that you are able to enjoy some rest and relaxation (plus a possible chocolate egg or two!)

In the northern hemisphere, Easter is in Spring, so we have the pleasure of flowers appearing in the garden, blossom growing on the trees and some days of sunshine. I love the inclusion in the Easter card below (made by a four-year-old) of a sheep and a snail, alongside flowers, a bird and a carrot. Seems just right.

As members of the Christian church, we have gone through the sadness of Good Friday and celebrated the joy of the resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Below is a photograph of St Cuthbert’s Island on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne in Northumberland. I was there last Sunday. The photo was taken at the end of the afternoon and the sun was shining on the water, as you see here. The cross – the symbol of Easter – is empty. We having been saying in church on Easter Sunday: ‘Christ is risen, hallelujah!’ This is a central truth in my life, which affects everything I do (or write or paint or stitch).
