Lullingstone Quilt Show 2024

On Saturday, I went Lullingstone Castle for The Quilters’ Guild Region 2 Quilt Show. The Castle is a stunning location for the show. You can see views of the Castle and World Garden in the posts here and here

This is the view across the front of the house to the marquee where the quilts are shown:

Unfortunately there is rule at this show that photographs of quilt entries can only be taken for personal use unless permission of the maker is obtained. I don’t have the means to do that so I cannot share any of the beautiful quilts made by members of Region 2. There were more than sixty on show, including the Challenge quilts on the theme ‘Walk like an Egyptian’. So all I can do is share photos of my own two quilts, sorry!

Here is my small Challenge quilt, called ‘Passing by the Pyramids’. It measures 16″ x 13″ and uses my own fabric ‘Mama Camel and baby’, machine appliqué, machine quilting, hand quilting and the use of Inktense pencils.

I also made this quilt for the show ‘Sage Leaves in the Summer Garden’ measuring 36½ x 47″:

The quilt uses a combination of pale blue solid and print fabrics with sage green solid and print fabrics. It is machine quilted on a domestic machine with two different leaf-shaped patterns.

I did of course take the opportunity to buy some fabric – thanks to Maple Textiles and The Stitch Witch!

Out in the grounds (separate to the ‘World Garden’ mentioned and photographed in the two posts mentioned at the beginning) there are some beautiful specimen trees. This is a magnolia, specifically ‘Magnolia grandiflora “Lemon Scented Magnolia’.

This unusual tree had bunches of pods hanging from its branches:

Its name is ‘Staphylea pinnata “Bladder Nut”‘ and, having looked it up, I can tell you that it has beautiful, scented blossoms earlier in the year. Beyond the house is a large lake complete with swans.

The address for the castle is Lullingstone Castle, Dartford DA4 0JA and their website is https://www.lullingstonecastle.co.uk
