At a Craft Market in Deal

On Saturday this week, I set out with a car full of quilts to the Landmark Centre, Deal for a craft market organised by C and C Markets. It’s about half an hour from where I live in Kent.

C and C Markets are run by two business partners with extensive experience of making and selling crafts. The market was very well organised and borh organisers had their own stall selling creamics and lighting/homewares respectively.

The Landmark Centre itself is being developed as a community centre for the town and it has its own café on the ground floor.

The market was held in the two upper halls of the Landmark building, both of which offer a light airy space with plenty of space to move around the halls.

There were over 600 visitors to the event and I had some great conversations with people who were interested in exploring quilt-making for the first time – and in developing skills in quilting: both with a walking foot and also free-motion quilting. I think there will need to be another course. (All the current courses are on this page here.)

I was in great company alongside other artists and makers from Kent including Janis Volckman of ‘Oast House Ceramics’ (@Oasthouseceramics) and printmaker Stephen Dow from ‘heraldblack’ (@heraldblack).

There was music throughout the market – from 10.00am to 3.00pm – which added to the great atmosphere.  Callum Sutton played and sang a medley of great tunes! (@callum_sutton_music_official)

Plus I sold some quilts. I always feel a pang when a quilt goes to its new home but I’m also delighted that someone else is going to to use and enjoy it. I shall definitely be doing some more markets later this year. In the meantime, there are a few quilts for sale in the Amanda Handmade Quilts shop here
