Late-night blogging!

I have been writing this blog every week for eleven and a half years. I publish the post on a Monday and most weeks I actually write on Monday too. Just recently, I went to a useful and enjoyable training session organised by Brighter Days Markets on Marketing for makers in East Kent. The day included some expert input but also some good informal discussion between the different practitioners. I found myself admitting to the room that I have made it a rule to write the post on Monday, however late in the day it gets. Thus, there have been times when I have still been writing at eleven twenty-five pm but have always completed by midnight!

Well, today I need to tell you that this approach needs to be refined a little. Last Monday was my birthday and I had spend a very enjoyable day in London, which included an art exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery of drawings by Lucian Freud. The railway station poster for the exhibition will give you a flavour of what I saw.

I was also invited to tea at Fortnum and Mason which was a wonderful treat. This photo will give you some idea of what this involved.

On returning to Ramsgate late that evening, I still had a blog post to write. OK, all well and good but what photo could I include? I took the very bad decision indeed to photograph myself at the keyboard and press ‘Publish’. The next day, I realised my mistake and quickly substituted a picture of me in birthday mode at the Fortnum and Mason cafe. So if you are a subscriber (and if you are, I thank you!) I’m afraid you will have received the dark, unfocussed tired-looking blogger version of the photo: sorry about that.

In other news, Issue 69 of Australian online magazine MAKE MODERN is about to be published and a quilt pattern I have written is inside it. This is a sneak peek at the contents. Can you work out which one is mine? If you are not sure, take a look at my own Quilt Patterns page here and see how often I enjoy a scrappy approach

Well, it’s getting late, so I’ll sign off now with no further late-evening photos added. See you next week.
