10th birthday post

Amanda Jane Textiles is 10 years old this week!  I can hardly believe it.

In September 2014, having resigned from my job as a schoolteacher, I started out on this interesting journey of entrepreneurship. Mine is a ‘micro-business’ (defined as ‘having between one and nine employees’) because I am the sole employee.

Over this time, many people have begun to enjoy the wonderful world of Textiles through classes in person and online – see the Classes page here (including on YouTube here), through using patterns from the Etsy shop and using Tutorials right here on the website here.

A number of magazines have published my patterns (see the Press page for details here);  more than 60 patterns have appeared in the Etsy shop here and over a hundred fabric designs have been included in the online studio at Spoonflower here.

After ten years – which have included difficult economic circumstances in the UK, a pandemic and a house-move – I’m glad to still be here!

Recent work has included a most interesting commission: to re-construct a quilt from a vintage quilt-top purchased by my clients in America. The top was entirely hand-pieced and the decision was made to hand-quilt the re-made quilt. It is an absolute beauty. If you are interested in commissioning a quilt, look at the post here.

Future plans include opening my home and studio in October (12/13th, 19/20th  26/27th 2024) as part of East Kent Open Houses.  For more details, see www.ekoh.org.uk.

I also plan to continue making Art Quilts and hope to do more painting on canvas, too.  So who knows what the next few years will look like…
