Sunshine at Green Walk

As previously mentioned, my quilts were on show at the Green Walk Arts and Crafts Event 2025 in Chorlton, Manchester. This event has been running for many years – 2025 was the sixteenth year it has taken place. Actually, my quilts were there in 2024 but I was not, as I was abroad visiting my son in Vancouver at the time! This year, I got to be there in person with the quilts!

Green Walk is a close of houses with a green area in the centre. The central area and the street are both full of trees and this last weekend was sunny and warm. Several of the residents in Green Walk open their homes and invite craftspeople in to exhibit their work. The even is a fundraiser for charity – and to raise funds for the Green Walk community, as they are responsible for any repairs to the road and also for any treatment needed by the trees.

It’s a very festive event with colourful banners outside the participating houses, bunting between the trees and specially-designed number plates to show which houses are open. A fund-raising stall dispenses tea, coffee and homemade cake all day and different mobile food outlets dispense food during the day.

There were five artists in number 27 Green Walk where I showed my work. I had half the space in a beautiful sitting room painted yellow. It made a great backdrop for these art textiles.

There was a quilt frame against one wall, so I could hang large quilts, like this one (‘Diamonds for Days’), which was purchased during the event.

This quilted jacket and the modern quilt (‘Tracks across the Meadow’) also looked good against the yellow wall, with its beautiful top freize.

Quilts were draped over a sofa…

…and the mantelpiece was a good display space for cushion covers, with space on the second sofa below for cards and small textiles

I had some great conversations with people about my work, but also about their own forays into sewing and quilting, including with Sascha who came wearing this fabulous quilted jacket that she had constructed from a thrifted quilt. I absolutely loved it and am sharing it here with her permission:

My bags are lighter now than when I set out on Friday, but if you were unable to get to Manchester for the event, I’m happy to say that there are still some quilts for sale in the Etsy Handmade Quilts shop here , for example, ‘Bright Garden Borders’ which is entirely hand-pieced and hand-quilted:

…and ‘Happy Holidays’ which celebrates the British seaside and features fabrics which I designed:
