‘Stripey Sky’ and an Art Show

'Stripey Sky' quilt by Amanda Jane Ogden for Make Modern Issue 71

Today is publication day for Issue 71 of ‘Make Modern’ and within its pages is my own quilt design ‘Stripey Sky’. Here’s a look at the cover:

Issue 71 of ‘Make Modern’ magazine

Like all the previous editions of the magazine, which is published in Australia, it is available as an e-magazine, instantly downloadable and easy to store electronically.

My quilt is a combination of stripes in bold colours on a sky-blue background. It is very scrap-friendly because although the colours of the stripes repeat across the quilt, it’s a different fabric for each one. I took the photo below on the East Cliff in Ramsgate and I like the hot summer vibe that it gives.

I quilted the piece with wavy lines going horizontally across the quilt as a counterpoint to the vertical stripes. It is a throw-sized quilt although the design could be repeated to produce a much larger quilt, if required. They are currently offering an All-Access Pass for every single copy of the magazine from issue 1 to the final issue of this year. In other news, I have pieces of work here on show in Ramsgate as part of the St George’s Art Show, which runs from 10 – 19th July 2026. The church, which is just off the High Street will be open each day from 2pm to 5pm. It is a very beautiful church, built in 1827 and there are artworks on show by 25 different artists.

All the artworks are displayed on boards within the church. Here are my pieces:
