Last week, I was staying on the Rame Peninsula in Cornwall, to celebrate a family occasion. During the week, I went to visit the church of St Mary and St Julian at Maker and found a treasury of interesting textile items within.
At the moment, the church has scaffolding around its tower.

This is the view from the church door side.

Maker church is linked with Rame church, just a few miles away. This engaging fabric banner shows the context of the two churches.

Top left, there is an appliqué and embroidered image of the church at Maker.

Maker is in a rural setting, surrounded by fields; on the top right, there are embroidered cows and sheep grazing in the fields.

On the bottom right is Rame church with its pretty lych gate

Finally, on the bottom left, there are images for the coastal village of Kingsand/Cawsand: you can see the Institute, boats on the sea and even a lobster pot, indicating the village’s role in the fishing industry.

The pews were full of colourful needlepoint kneelers.

I particularly liked this bright poppy design.

…and this coastal scene. All of them reflect the situation of the church.

I spotted a lovely banner embroidered with the church’s name, hanging in the chancel, on the left.

Here is a closer look. The goldwork on the central cross is exquisite.

In the centre of the chancel, there is modern goldwork on a hanging on the lecturn.

Here is a detail of the centre portion, showing padded areas of silk and couched gold threads.

A matching, smaller panel hangs from the pulpit.

Here is a close-up:

Out in the quiet churchyard, there is a view of the sea.

This quilt pattern celebrates seaside holidays. It uses fabrics that I designed, taking inspiration from holidays on the Rame Peninsula.
