One of today’s tasks was preparing my quilts for the Festival of Quilts 2026. This involved added a hanging sleeve to each one (I am entering two quilts) attaching a label to the back and then packing them carefully over cardboard rolls, then wrapping them up into a parcel ready for delivery to Bill Bowden Logistics who manage the collection of all the quilts shown at the show. As we now live in the South of England, this year for the first time, the quilts are going to be delivered in person. I will collect the quilts in person too. This means no anxieties about anything getting lost in the post, phew!
The package is resting on the spare-room bed – and, in fact, on a quilt called ‘Sky Blue Pink’. This modern strip-pieced quilt was inspired by an evening sky in London and there’s a pattern for it, so you could make your own. This makes a really long, kingsize quilt. Buy the pattern here
I have been entering quilts into the Festival of Quilts competition since 2016 on the basis that if quilters don’t enter a quilt, there’s no quilt show. In 2016 I entered four quilts, 2017 four quilts, 2018 three quilts, 2019 four quilts, 2020 (virtual show) one quilt, 2021 no quilts (but I did move house!), 2022 three quilts, 2023 three quilts, 2024 two quilts and 2025 three quilts. I enjoy quiltmaking in many of its different aspects. In that list, there are Art Quilts, Contemporary, Miniature, Modern. Pictorial, Quilt Creations, Sustainable, Two Person and one Group quilt.
The Festival of Quilts this year is from 30 July – 2 August 2026 at the NEC Birmingham. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see quilt-making in all it’s variety and colour. See you there.
