Welcome to the June block for the ‘Watch the Stars’ 2022 mystery quilt.
To make the June block, you need to follow the instructions given in January post for making half-square triangle units. You will find this in the instructions under the heading ‘Making the Star’ in the January post here.
A quarter-inch seam is used throughout.

Making the Block
1 Check the January post (link above) for how to make half-square triangles. Use four 3⅞ x 3⅞” pale yellow squares and four 3⅞ x 3⅞” navy squares to make eight half-square triangle units like the ones below. Press the seam and then press the seam allowances over to the navy blue side.

2 Join two half-square triangle units, along the navy sides, like the one in the photo below. Repeat with with the remaining units to make four pairs in all. Press the seam, then press the seam allowances open.

3 Take the white square and lay one of the dark yellow triangles, right sides together, along the top edge. Turn it over and pin from the back, so you can make sure that you have an equal-sized triangle sticking out from each edge, as shown. Stitch the seam. Press the seam, then press the seam allowance outwards towards the triangle. Repeat this step with another triangle pinned on the opposite edge.

4 Lay the remaining two dark yellow triangles, right sides together on the remaining two sides of the white square. Pin, stitch and press as before.

5 Assemble the block. Make row 1. Add a navy 3½ x 3½” square to the left of a half-square triangle unit and then add another navy 3½ x 3½” square to the right. Press the seam allowances out towards the navy squares.

6 Add a double half-square triangle unit to the left of the central white/yellow square and another double half-square triangle unit to the right. Press the seams open.

7 Repeat step 5. Turn the piece through 180 degrees, so the yellow points are going downwards. Then join the three rows of the block, aligning the vertical seams.

Press well and set aside.
