Welcome to the November block for the ‘Watch the Stars’ 2022 mystery quilt. This is the last block! Next month, at the beginning of December, you will discover how to join all the blocks together to make the quilt top. All the stars will be in place and the mystery will be revealed!
Here are the November block instructions.
A quarter-inch seam is used throughout.
Materials
For each of four blocks, you will need:
6 x 4″ white polka dot print fabric
14 x 12″ darker yellow print fabric
7 x 7 pale yellow print fabric
18 x 21″ navy blue print fabric
Cutting
Please look at the October block cutting instructions to see the two different ways of cutting oblongs into triangles. The post is here
For each of the four blocks, do the following
from the white fabric, cut two squares, each 2⅞ x 2⅞”
from the darker yellow print fabric, cut two squares, each 2⅞ x 2⅞”
from the dark yellow print fabric, cut two oblongs 5⅜ x 2¾” then cut the oblongs from the top right-hand corner to the bottom left-hand corner.
from the light yellow print fabric, cut two rectangles 5⅜ x 2¾” then cut the oblongs from the top left hand-hand corner to the bottom right-hand-hand corner.
From the navy solid fabric, cut four oblongs 5⅜ x 2¾” then cut two of the oblongs from the top right-hand corner to the bottom left-hand corner, as shown.
Cut the remaining two navy oblongs from the top left corner to the bottom right corner, as shown.
from the navy solid fabric, cut four squares 4½ x 4½”
Making the first block
To make the November block, you need to follow the instructions given in January post for making half-square triangle units. You will find this in the instructions under the heading ‘Making the Star’ in the January post here.
1 Take a 2⅞ x 2⅞” square of white polka dot fabric and a 2⅞ x 2⅞” of dark yellow print fabric. Follow the instructions in the January post (link above) for making half-square triangle units to make two white/dark yellow units. Repeat to make a further two units, so you have four in all.

2 Repeat to make a further two units, so you have four in all.

3 Pin a navy ‘left-hand’ triangle, right sides together, to a darker yellow ‘left-hand triangle’. It can be helpful to mark the position of the quarter-inch seam allowances with an erasable pen, in the two bottom corners of the triangle, before pinning.

The pinned triangles will look like this.

4 Stitch and press seam allowances to the yellow side.

5 Pin a ‘right-hand’ navy oblong, right sides together, to a ‘right-hand’ lighter yellow oblong.

5 Stitch and press.

6 Stitch of the half-square triangle units made in step one below the piece made in steps 2-3.

7 Stitch a navy 4½ x 4½” square above the piece made in step 5.

8 Join the piece made in step 7 to the right of the piece made in step 6.

9 Repeat steps 3-8 three more times, to make the remaining three-quarters of the block. Join two of these quarter blocks to make the top half of the block.

10 Join two more quarters to make the lower half of the block.

11 Join the two halves of the block together. The block is complete.

12 There are four of these blocks in the ‘Watch the Stars’ quilt, so you need to follow all the instructions, including fabric requirements, cutting and steps 1-11 for making, three more times.

Press all the blocks well and set aside until next month.
